Year 2004 The Big Idea

It's not just a jolly for Markerle as he travels the world's search engine conferences, pressing the flesh of the great and good at all the major search engines (including Googleplex). Honest. He proves it by deciding to set up a digital agency.

Year 2005 A Star is Born

Brothers Adam and Markerle come clean and set up Soap Media, with Adam's background in web design and development and Markerle's cutting-edge search engine marketing prowess offering dual-cleansing power.

Year 2006 Big Players Now

Acorns? Not a word of it. Soap Media grow oak trees from the start, pulling major accounts like Pontins and American Golf. We prove we're certifiable, with certification from Google and Yahoo. And Google send us a nice gift (a digital photo frame).

Year 2007 Clean & Polish

A clean and polish for our website and marketing tactics. Brand, design, build and promote the European Radio Awards in Barcelona. Work with Slazenger on the Cricket World Cup – and notch a century of clients.

Year 2008 Strong Partnerships

Word spreads as traditional media, PR and design agencies ask us to work for their own clients. Our work appears in the pages of magazines like Web Designer. We are the Wordpress geniuses.

Year 2009 First Million

The jungle drums beat loudly about our strong performance in digital marketing and we attract some big beasts from competitive market sectors such as finance and law. These big accounts lead to our first million pound spend on Google Adwords.

Year 2010 More Tea, Vicar?

Portakabins have many benefits – mainly cost – but great hospitality for clients isn't one of them. We find salvation in an old vicarage in the centre of Preston. (Cleanliness is next to godliness.) New premises? New branding and website soon follow.

Year 2011 Expansion

In case the many years of success go to our heads, we appoint a dedicated business manager to keep us all in check. But we get all big-headed again when we're shortlisted for Digital Business of the Year in the annual Red Rose Awards.

Year 2012 Development

The big names keep flooding in – Booths Supermarkets, Kukri (JD Sports) and Colortrac. Of course, we could spend all our profits on nice things like Belgian cookies but instead we reinvest by developing staff and the management team. Next up? New premises that do justice to our market-leading status.
